The continual focus for English through our Literacy blocks at LCS is to teach, assess and report on the Western Australian Curriculum English content, explicitly focusing on age appropriate instruction for students on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, independent and modelled writing and comprehension. In particular, our priorities for 2021-2023 are reading and grammar and punctuation. We use New South Wales Foundation FontĀ  for writing.

Leinster Community School strives for excellence in teaching, learning and assessment through whole school English programs. The Letters and Sounds program was introduced for students K-2 in 2020 whilst the rest of the school utilise the Soundwaves spelling program. Letters and Sounds is a systematic approach which teaches children to read using phonics. It builds children’s speaking and listening skills and prepares them to learn to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills.
