The focus of mathematics in 2019 is the continued explicit emphasis on teaching the content and proficiencies of the Western Australian Curriculum: Mathematics through structured numeracy blocks and evidence based pedagogy. Students will continue to learn ways in which to use their ideas about number and algebra, measurement and geometry, statistics and probability to understand, problem solve, reason and develop fluency of mathematical content and assist their learning across the curriculum.  Teachers utilize the Origo mathematics resource.

Student’s basic fact knowledge and automaticity will be a key focus in student learning. This year, students will also continue to develop their worded problem solving abilities using schemas and problem solving whole school strategies.

Leinster Community School uses Mathletics and Mathseeds, both online student resources which can improve mathematical skills. Students are provided with a password which then allows the student 24-hour access, 7 days per week. Research has proven the use of these resources may improve student’s mathematical attainment.
