Uniforms

  • Dress Code

    Leinster Community School encourages all staff, students and community members to have pride in themselves and their school.

    Rationale

    The Department of Education’s Dress Code for Students in Public Schools Policy states that dress codes for students in public schools are determined by the school board in consultation with the school. The policy also stipulates that the Principal must confirm that the school has a dress code.

    Purpose

    Our school community believes a dress code:

      • Fosters and enhances the public image of the school;
      • Creates a positive image within the school and assists in building school and team spirit;
      • Ensures students are safely dressed for specific school activities; and
      • Prepares students for work, as many workplaces have dress and safety codes that require the wearing of specific clothing.
      • Dress Code Policy

    Footwear

    Flat soled shoes that enclose the feet. No thongs or slip on sandals. Parents should ensure students wear appropriate footwear for Sport and Physical Education.

    We are a SunSmart school. A wide-brimmed hat must be worn throughout the year to protect against UV radiation. Staff will model and promote the wearing of hats while on playground duty.

    Make-up

    No make-up shall be worn, eg. nail polish or facial make-up.

    Jewellery

    No jewellery with the exception of watches, any piercings plain small sleepers and studs in the ear. Any religious emblems on chains must be worn inside the shirt for reasons of safety. On the days that students are involved in sporting activities we suggest that jewellery is not worn at all for safety reasons.

    Excursions

    For reasons of identification and safety, all students will be required to wear school uniform when leaving the school grounds on excursions.

    Student Leaders

    As representatives of the student body, student leaders are expected to be a positive role model for other students. This includes wearing the correct school uniform and their badges at all times.

    When a student’s clothing is not consistent with the school dress code, the following measures may be taken:

    • Parents contacted via telephone or letter
    • Parents provided with a copy of the School Dress Code
    • Exclusion from excursions (this is specific to the day of excursions and is a measure to ensure safety of students while off-site)
  • School Factions

    The school promotes a faction system to foster team spirit and loyalty which reinforces our school values. We have two factions Percys (blue) and Waroonga (red) which are named after old mine sites in our area.

    Your child will be placed in one of these factions and all family members are placed in the same faction. Faction shirts can be worn to school at any time and are available for purchase in the Uniform Shop.

Emergency Contacts

It is important that parents keep their contact and emergency contact details (including email) current so that a designated point of contact is available to the school at any given time.
