At Leinster Community School, learning in our high school is anything but ordinary! This term students are diving into dynamic topics, engaging in thought-provoking debates, and exploring innovative programs that are setting new standards in education at our school! From mastering the art of persuasive writing to debating the impacts of social media for under-16s and record numbers participating in the ‘Follow the Dream’ study club, our students are making the most of their educational journey.
In English, students are honing their persuasive writing skills with remarkable enthusiasm. They are learning how to craft compelling arguments, use rhetorical techniques, various language features and present their ideas convincingly. The recent assessment on social media usage for those under 16 sparked lively debates and intense discussions.
One student expressed her views, saying, “Social media can be a great tool for connection and learning, but it’s also a double-edged sword. We need to teach younger kids how to use it responsibly. They talk to random people without even knowing it” On the other hand, it was argued, “Banning social media for under-16s might protect them, but it also limits their freedom and ability to express themselves. It’s all about balance and education.”
In addition to their regular classes, students are flocking to the newly established Study Club, which has seen impressive attendance since its inception. Meeting on a Monday afternoon with Ms Brewster and Mr Hyde on hand to assist (they are experts in Maths and Science), this club provides a collaborative space where students can finish off work, work on assessments, revise, and support each other academically.
Science is undergoing an exciting transformation with the introduction of new programs that emphasise hands-on learning and real-world applications. Students are delving into the fundamental laws that govern our universe. From experiments on motion and forces to discussions on energy and waves, students are gaining a solid foundation in this critical subject-Physics! Science week is almost here… watch this space for upcoming lunchtime activities and experiments!
Mathematics classes are abuzz with activity as students tackle challenging concepts like trigonometry and Pythagoras’ theorem. Through practical applications and real-life problem-solving, they are discovering the relevance of these mathematical principles.
Our seniors are busy are exploring the intricacies of memoirs and crafting their own compelling narratives. In mathematics, they are tackling advanced theories in calculus and statistics. They are solving complex problems and applying mathematical principles to real-world scenarios. One of our year 12 students is even completing his work placement in the lower school with Mr Reynolds as part of his introduction to life beyond school. Exciting times ahead for our older students!
Stay tuned for more updates on the incredible achievements and adventures of our students. The future looks bright at Leinster Community School!
